Make the drink you can't buy.
Recipe books tell you what to make. Bench Test helps you create your own.
Sodas, lemonades, refreshers, iced teas, and yes, energy drinks. Weigh small 100 g trials, find the right dose by taste, learn why it works, then scale the one you love to a bottle, a batch, or a co-packer run.
Taste five cups blind, pick your favorite, and Bench Test writes that dose into your formula.
what will you make?
Start from a template if you like. It won't stay ours for long.
Cola, root beer, cream soda. Your spice, your sweetness, your fizz.
Classic, fruited, lemon-lime, low-sugar. Tart exactly how you like it.
Juice-forward and light. Berry, tropical, whatever's in season.
Black, green, herbal. Sweet tea or barely-there, peach or plain.
Fiber, electrolytes, botanicals. Built with intent, dosed with care.
idea to bottle in four moves
The method beverage developers use, sized for a kitchen counter and a 0.01 g scale.
Plan
Describe the drink, your budget, and what's on your shelf. Get a starting formula with cheap, mid and premium routes.
Gather
Shop your shelf first. Get a list of only what you're missing, and keep what you own in your inventory.
Bench
Weigh 100 g trials with big, glove-friendly controls, and run blind taste ladders to dial in each dose. Strong flavors are diluted for you, so a kitchen scale can weigh them.
Scale
Take the winner from 100 g to a bottle, a batch, or a production run, with a formula sheet a co-packer can work from.
Getting a drink out of formulation shouldn't cost thousands.
Bench Test opens up beverage development. Take your product from idea to a production-ready formula for a fraction of the usual cost, and understand every gram of it.
The usual way
- Hire a formulator.
- Wait through rounds of samples and back-and-forth.
- Spend hundreds, often thousands, of dollars on a single recipe.
- End up with a spreadsheet of numbers, without really knowing how your own drink is made.
With Bench Test
- Develop it yourself, at your own counter.
- Iterate as fast as you can weigh and taste.
- Get out of the formulation phase for a fraction of the cost.
- Know what every ingredient does and why it's there, so you can explain your formula to a co-packer and keep improving it.
The right ingredient, in the right role, at the right dose.
Every ingredient does a job. Bench Test shows you what each one brings, how they work together, and how much it takes to get the effect you want.
Backbone
Juice and concentrate carry the main flavor, cheaply and naturally.
Accent
Extracts sharpen and lift a flavor in tiny doses. They can't carry a drink alone.
Balance
Sweetener and acid set how bright, how sweet and how rounded it tastes.
Pairing
Flavors that complement each other, so a second note supports the first.
Did you know?
Many grocery-store extracts are mostly alcohol. Just 0.8 g of a high-alcohol extract in a 100 g drink can push it to about 0.8% ABV, past the 0.5% limit for non-alcoholic. Bench Test catches this as you build, and shows you how to get the flavor another way.
Make your own energy drink.
Pick your caffeine level, your flavor and your sweetener, and know exactly what's in every can. No mystery blend, no 300 mg surprise.
who it's for
kitchen tinkerers
You have a SodaStream, a few extracts and an idea. Bench Test turns "a splash of this" into a recipe you can repeat, with nutrition worked out and a shopping list built from what's already on your shelf.
future founders
Want to sell it someday? Build the formula the way a co-packer will need it: by weight, with real ingredient specs, scaled from a 100 g trial to a production batch.
